The 103rd NFL season has officially come to a close.
The Chiefs defeated the Eagles 38-35 in an instant classic game, winning their 2nd Super Bowl in 4 years. With this victory, Patrick Mahomes has become the third player in NFL History to win two MVPs and two Super Bowl MVP’s…and he’s only 27.
For the Chiefs, they came off of a game-winning field goal by Harrison Butker to win the game vs the Bengals. This was their 5th year in a row playing and hosting the AFC Championship Game. And Mahomes finally beat Joe Burrow. However, there was still a lot of concern about his high ankle sprain.
For the Eagles, they came off a dominating win against the San Francisco 49ers 31-7 with San Francisco not even throwing for over 100 yards passing. With Brock Purdy going down early, the Eagle’s defense especially their Defensive Line was ready as they forced 3 fumbles and constantly left Philadelphia with amazing field position. And with that, they were going to their second super bowl in the last 6 years.
The game started off with the Eagles driving on the Chiefs. They did practically anything they wanted to. They got off to a 24-14 lead and with Patrick Mahomes reinjuring his ankle, things were not looking good. The Kansas City Chiefs then went on to score on every single possession they had in the second half with Patrick Mahomes looking better than ever. And with 4 seconds left after a controversial call, Harrison Butler hit another game-winning field goal to win Super Bowl LVII. Mahomes in the game threw 3 passing touchdowns and Jalen Hurts ran for 3 touchdowns which is the first time in Super Bowl history a quarterback has done that.
Andy Reid and the Chiefs made some remarkable adjustments during the extended halftime to get to where they were. And the main reason why they won was because of the OLine. The Eagles have a historically good Defensive Line putting up 70 sacks this year and 4 players with at least 11 sacks however the Eagles didn’t even put up a single sack. This led to Mahomes getting enough time for him to make the necessary throws to dominate on offense, especially in the second half. The Chiefs were perfect offensively and the Eagles weren’t in the second half. Defensively Kansas City made a lot more tackles in the second half. They were missing tackles that they should have made in the first half but the second half was like night and day. They were making lots of big hits and stops forcing them to punt the ball multiple times. This game will go down as one of the greatest games of this generation and the Chiefs will be victorious again but both teams have a bright future ahead of them.
