Luka Doncic dropped an astounding 73 points in Dallas’ thrilling 148-143 victory against the Atlanta Hawks, tying David Thompson for the fourth-highest individual points in an NBA game.

Doncic gave tonight’s game everything he had (and more) to post the league’s highest-scoring performance this season–surpassing Joel Embiid’s 70-point game against the Spurs, and Devin Booker’s 62-point game against the Pacers.
Additionally, Doncic broke a franchise record for the Mavs, surpassing Dirk Nowitzki’s mark for most points in a half.
Not only was Luka’s unbelievable performance record-breaking, it was both efficient and essential. He made 25 of his 33 total shot attempts, hitting eight three-point field goals and fifteen free throws in the process.
Doncic’s contributions surpassed merely scoring, as he posted an impressive seven assists, ten rebounds, and a steal as well.
The irony wasn’t lost on Doncic as he outshined the team that drafted him, saying “I think it’s a big deal, but there’s always going to be trades in conversation when you come back to one place that could’ve had you. You always have maybe some more special (feelings) to it, maybe it was more special.”
Despite the loss, Trae Young, who was a part of the very trade that brought Doncic to the Mavericks, finished the game with 30 points, 11 assists, and one steal while shooting 9-18 from the field.
